Subject : Technology n Language Learning, Lecturer : Mr. Rizal (journal of Tech n L2 teaching by Warschauer n Meskil)

waw waw n waw....
due to reading this awesome article, I get much knowledge n many points of view as to high technology used in teaching. Actually each high technology (refers to computer) can be used for teaching any subject as long as the teachers know how to make it applied in each subject. However, since I am now in English and Language Department so I am going to talk about High Tech used in teaching second language based on Warschauer n Meski's article.

Before computer came, spread, and took apart in influencing people's life, traditional tools did those in the very first place. People still communicated by mail through post which would spend lots of costs and even more times. People still typed any writing just by type-writer which was not really effective to use comparing to the computer. Teacher only used old blackboards and chalks to deliver lessons to the class. No language labs, Computer labs, moreover which were connected to the internet connection. Teachers showed their effort to deliver the lessons though merely by using those limited stuffs to make their students gain the subjects.

Right now, everything changes. USA is getting closer, UK is beside us, Netherlands is our neighbor, France is as if in front of our face, etc. We can see those places more easily than before without visiting them. High technology influences it. Every aspect, side, and part of the world are influenced. Economic, Education, Health, Governance, and so on. Nothing is left from High Tech.

High tech is "ubiquitous", the word which is very attracting and grabbing my attention in this article. It is really precise that the computer is right now merely like rubbishes. Every where is available, every where is provided. No wonder if right now teaching and learning processes are touching it. Student now is much more different then before. In operating this sophisticated stuff, student is cleverer than the teacher. So this is why teacher is demanded to be updated in using these technologies. When teachers just use old blackboard and chalk before, now they must know how to operate OHP, LCD, and so on. If it is not, than good bye ...:)

Nothing perfect. Though computer helps us a lot in doing anything, this also has its own infirmity.
Just be aware in using this. No more gate for us now to get anything. Everything is available and complete provided. So, make your own way to protect yourselves. :)

  10. Strong reflection, Iqbal! I like the way you describe how technology makes no-boudary-world. Also, the discussion enriches the perspectives. Ika's question is very relevant, and requires an immediate answer.
