Vampires, Romance, and Combats of Twilight Fantasy
A mixture of vampires, romance, and combats equal to “Twilight Saga”. These four-sequel books are named “Twilight Saga”. Meyers, Stephenie Meyers, well-known as the author of “Twilight Saga”, succeed on making this book rose to the top of books chart with 120 million copies in countries. It Starts with the first book, “Twilight”, as a charming immortal creature, a vampire appears in an ordinary Isabella Swan’s life. The vampire, Edward Cullen, is accompanied by others, most likely to be his family. Alice Cullen, the sweet vampire gifted with a special future sight talent, is paired with the newborn vampire called Jasper Cullen. Another loving couple stands in the family is Emmett Cullen, the tough one, and the most elegant among others, Rosalie Cullen. Meanwhile, Carlisle and Esme Cullen are in charge for them and play the parents role. The Cullen family drinks blood, of course, as the natural habit of vampires but they drink animal’s blood rather than human’s. “Twilight” provides a romance story of how an immortal falls hard for a mortal girl, Bella. When Bella moved to Forks, she carried on with life as simple as it took. Not until Edward, her soon to be love of life, appeared and dragged her into an unfamiliar world of immortals. She got on with the new world easily, before the threats came to surface. James, a wild vampire who drinks from humans, came after her. Combats started to flared up as James with his companies, Victoria and Lauren hunted her down. Fortunately, Edward did not let them get to Bella that easy because of their deep and unbreakable love. She also willing to sacrifice things she has, lost contact to her family and takes risks for a trade of his love. With struggles of his family, he won a combat to James and surprisingly, Alice was the one who broke James’ neck off his body and burned him to death. The Cullens took Bella back to Forks and try to covered things up for her good. This book was later manifested into a movie, which attracted many people, from teenagers to adults.
To my opinion, this book is extremely brilliant because it falters my mind-setting of the statement that vampires are a killer and dreadful immortal creatures. It is stated clearly that Edward Cullen, the charming vampire, is a protagonist character of the book. He does not kill human for bloods, he mingles with mortals, and most importantly he aims no harm toward others. Compared to ancient vampire kinds such as vampires from China and vampires from the movie of “Abraham Lincoln, the vampire hunter” which the vampires are zombie look-a-like. We can easily spot the differences among their life style, murder technic, and how they try to survive a life. Meyers has indirectly introduced us, the readers, to a new concept of vampire who can survive among humans with a spark of fantasy.
Alice, the one who murdered the wild vampire, James, declares to us a new side of this book, feminism. The author is a genius according to me because unlike others, she proves that sometimes, women are equal to man or maybe above them. With prove of the part where Alice killed James, neither Emmett nor Jasper, simply took the point that women can be the hero of the combats, not only man.
Now, by analyzing the way Alice killed James, we can find a new method of murder by vampires. In old times, ancient vampires tend to killed humans because of urge to drink bloods, by biting human’s neck and suck the bloods. This book tells us a different method of murder which is by breaking their neck and burn them. This kind of murder which was done by Alice is caused by threats not by the urge to satisfy their needs of blood. I find this very unique because I have never found anything like this before in other vampire books or movies. It becomes the signature of this book with no doubt.
From Bella’s point of view, the love she is willing to sacrifice for is undoubtedly strong considering the fact that this love is intertwined between an immortal, vampire and mortals which can be called human. In the following sequel of “Twilight Saga”, their relationship only grows stronger although obstacles are there just to interrupt it. Even Bella sacrifices her own body to maintain the love of her and Edward that later will be born and claimed as their half mortal and half immortal daughter. She takes risks, lost contact to her family and fight for their love whenever she needs to. This comes to my mind, “why don’t we take an example of her character and implement it in daily life?” so, why don’t we try?
Words by words have been written and my applause is addressed to her honor, Stephenie Meyers. She is brilliant because of her effort of making a story consists of vampires, romance that is heart-melting, and combats or we may call battles with brand new concept of views. It describes in the characters which are rarely found in other fantasies and the plot twist itself. My recommendation goes out there to reach new readers, you will not regret, I guarantee you.
